A shared sense of home.

Marjorie

Co-Founder & Principal Designer

Marjorie reviewing textile samples for an interior design project

Marjorie brings more than two decades of independent design experience across full-home renovations, new builds, and everything in between. She studied architecture with a concentration in historic preservation and served on the city's Historic Review Commission, giving her an understanding of homes that extends well beyond what happens inside a room.

Her particular gift is seeing what a space can become long before it exists. Marjorie can walk into an empty room - or an empty warehouse - and immediately begin to see the proportions, flow, architecture, and details that could transform it. That vision is matched by meticulous attention to function: cabinetry planned down to what belongs in each drawer, layouts built around how people actually move through a home, and details considered at a scale most people wouldn't think to notice.

After decades immersed in design, Marjorie also carries an encyclopedic knowledge of furniture, textiles, color, makers, and materials. She knows when a room needs the piece you can order tomorrow…and when it's worth searching for months for the vintage Ralph Lauren bar cart that makes everything else fall into place.

But, her point of view never comes at the expense of the client's own. Marjorie is especially good at meeting people where they are and helping them discover how much further their taste can go. A client who arrives asking for “modern” might discover they love pattern; someone hesitant about color might simply need to see the right combination. She doesn't push clients toward a look. She gives them the confidence to go further into their own.

That combination of vision, rigor, and intuition has led many clients to return as their homes and lives change. Her work is deeply considered without ever feeling precious: beautiful enough to notice, functional enough to live in, and personal enough to belong only to the people who call it home.

Cait Carlson

Co-Founder & Managing Director

Cait grew up in 222, which means design was part of her vocabulary long before it became part of her work. She inherited Marjorie's appreciation for old houses, collected pieces, expressive color, and rooms that get better as life happens in them, then developed a perspective distinctly her own. Her career has spanned retail buying and merchandising, brand strategy, and strategic advisory, all rooted in a fascination with why people are drawn to certain things and how they experience them. She brings that same instinct to interiors: noticing the detail that changes a room, finding the unexpected piece that makes everything else make sense, and thinking just as carefully about how a home works as how it looks. Cait is especially interested in what makes a space feel unmistakably like the people who live there: what they collect, how they spend their time, what they're drawn to, and the things they may not yet have the words to describe.

Her goal isn't to give a client a Studio 222 house, it's to help them recognize what “home” means to them.
